The tribes of Al-Zawiya have held Libya’s outgoing Government of National Unity (GNU), led by Abdel-Hamid Dbaiba, fully responsible for the killing of Libyan activist Khansa Al-Mujahid, demanding an urgent and transparent investigation into the crime, which has sparked nationwide outrage.
In a strongly worded statement issued just hours after her burial, the Major Tribes of Al-Zawiya and the Qamamada tribe accused Interior Minister Imad Al-Trabelsi of bearing direct responsibility for the course of the investigations. The killing took place in Tripoli’s Al-Sarraj district—an area under the influence of the minister’s brother, widely known as “Al-Frawla.”
The tribal elders, dignitaries, and sheikhs expressed their “deep shock and anger” at what they described as a “heinous crime,” calling it a direct assault on civil peace and a dangerous sign of the collapse of deterrence and justice in the capital.
Tribal Demands for Accountability
The tribes called on Libya’s Attorney General and the Ministry of Interior to launch an immediate and transparent investigation, identify all perpetrators and instigators, and make the findings public.
They warned that any delay or leniency would signal a “serious collapse of the state’s authority” and could open the door to further assassinations.
The statement vowed that Khansa Al-Mojahid’s blood “will not be lost,” stressing that safeguarding the rights of her young daughter is “a national duty before it is a legal one.” The tribes urged the state to assert its authority and fully enforce the law.
UN Mission Condemns Killing
The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) strongly condemned the killing, offering condolences to the victim’s family.
UNSMIL warned that the crime highlights the rise in violence targeting women in Libya, particularly those active in public life.
The mission called on Libyan authorities to conduct a swift and transparent investigation, bring those responsible to justice, and urged restraint to avoid any escalation that could heighten tensions.
Who Was Khansa Al-Mojahid?
Khansa Al-Mojahid was a well-known Libyan content creator active in the fashion and beauty sector.
She was the wife of Muad Al-Manfoukh, a prominent commander in Al-Zawiya’s armed groups and a former member of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum.
She had a wide following across social media platforms before her life was cut short by gunfire while driving her private vehicle on Friday night.
