Sirte Gulf International Airport announced on Sunday the resumption of air traffic, marking a key step in restoring domestic aviation links across Libya.
The airport confirmed the arrival of its first official flight, operated by Al-Buraq Air, on an Embraer E190. The flight landed in Sirte after departing from Benghazi, signalling the return of regular operations after a period of limited activity.
On the same day, a second flight departed from Sirte bound for Tripoli, further underscoring renewed operational momentum and improved air connectivity between Libya’s eastern and western regions.
Airport officials said the restart of flights is part of broader efforts to support domestic air transport, enhance intercity mobility, and deliver operational services in line with approved aviation standards. The move is expected to ease passenger travel, shorten transit times, and improve the overall quality of air services.
The reopening of routes through Sirte is seen as an important development for national connectivity, trade, and mobility, positioning the airport once again as a strategic hub linking key Libyan cities.
