On Monday, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry discussed the latest developments in the Libyan crisis in a telephone call with his Moroccan counterpart, Nasser Bourita. This was within the framework of mutual coordination to advance political settlement efforts in Libya.

According to Ahmed Hafez, spokesperson for the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, Shoukry confirmed Egypt’s steadfast position during the call. Cairo supports efforts aimed at reaching a consensual political solution that preserves the sovereignty and unity of Libya, and fulfils the Libyan people’s aspirations towards security and stability.

Shoukry also stressed the need to confront all forms of terrorism, extremism, and destructive foreign interference. These positions are clearly reflected in the Cairo Declaration, in addition to Egypt’s welcoming of the truce initiatives.

The two FMs discussed current efforts to stabilize the ceasefire and reach a comprehensive political agreement to the crisis. They also agreed to continue consultations and coordination, to intensify their contacts with the active political circles in Libya. This is in addition to international partners, including the UN Envoy, the African High-Level Committee on Libya in the African Union, as well as the Arab League.
