Libya has secured a significant legal victory after a Swiss court ordered the lifting of a seizure on a key Libyan asset abroad, known as the “Libyan Guest House” in Geneva, in a case involving the communications group Jalouli Telecom – Easy Media.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Government of National Unity announced that the competent court ruled in favor of the Libyan state, cancelling the seizure order in full. The decision was based on legal arguments presented by Libya’s State Litigation Department in coordination with the ministry.
According to the official statement, the court not only annulled the seizure but also ordered the claimant company to bear all legal costs associated with the case. In addition, the ruling requires the company to pay financial compensation to the Libyan state amounting to 33,755 Swiss francs, covering litigation expenses.
The dispute had centered on the attempted legal claim over the Libyan-owned property in Geneva, a strategic overseas asset used for official and diplomatic purposes. The court’s decision effectively restores Libya’s full control over the property, reinforcing the country’s legal position in protecting its foreign assets.
The ministry emphasized that this outcome reflects Libya’s ongoing commitment to defending its sovereign assets through lawful and institutional channels. It highlighted the role of diplomatic missions abroad in closely monitoring such cases and coordinating with judicial authorities to safeguard state property.
This ruling is seen as part of broader efforts by Libyan authorities to secure and recover assets overseas, particularly amid past disputes and legal challenges involving state-owned properties. It also sends a strong signal regarding Libya’s determination to uphold its rights in international jurisdictions.
Officials reiterated that the government will continue pursuing all necessary legal measures to protect Libyan assets abroad and ensure they remain under full state control.
