Belgassem Haftar began his official visit to Egypt with a high-level meeting with Hassan Rashad to discuss mechanisms for joint coordination and bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
According to Libyan officials, the meeting focused on Egypt’s role in supporting development, stability and reconstruction efforts across Libya, while both sides stressed the importance of strengthening strategic partnerships serving the interests of the Libyan and Egyptian peoples.
During the visit, Belgassem Haftar also held talks in Cairo with Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly to explore opportunities for expanding cooperation in reconstruction, infrastructure development and technical expertise exchange.
The Libya Development and Reconstruction Fund said in a statement that discussions covered the contribution of Egyptian companies and specialists to reconstruction projects inside Libya, particularly in areas affected by Storm Daniel.
Madbouly praised the efforts of the Libya Development and Reconstruction Fund in implementing development projects, while Belgassem Haftar expressed appreciation for Egypt’s continued support and the participation of Egyptian firms and technical teams in relief and reconstruction operations in Derna.
Storm Daniel devastated Derna and parts of eastern Libya in September 2023, causing widespread destruction and significant loss of life. Since then, Egyptian companies have played an increasingly important role in rebuilding infrastructure and supporting recovery projects in the affected regions.
Both sides reaffirmed the importance of maintaining coordination and expanding bilateral cooperation in a way that reflects the deep historical ties between Libya and Egypt and supports long-term stability and development.
The visit comes as eastern Libyan authorities continue strengthening regional partnerships to accelerate reconstruction efforts and attract investment into major infrastructure projects across the country.
