Libya’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has reaffirmed the government’s support for peace and national reconciliation during an official visit to Sabha and Brak Al-Shati in southern Libya.

The statement came during a meeting with the Supreme Council of Fezzan Elders and Notables, which includes representatives from 27 municipalities across the region.

The minister praised the council’s role in strengthening civil peace and social security, describing its members as an essential pillar of stability and an important community reference point for the success of national reconciliation efforts.

He stressed the importance of uniting the work of state institutions and social components to support stability, dialogue, and rapprochement between different parties. He said such cooperation was especially important during the current stage, which requires a strong sense of national responsibility.

Members of the Supreme Council of Fezzan Elders and Notables welcomed the visit and expressed their readiness to continue cooperation and coordination in support of Libya’s higher national interest.

They also reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening unity, preserving social cohesion, and promoting stability across southern Libya.

The visit reflects the government’s efforts to engage local leaders in the south, where tribal and community figures play a major role in mediation, reconciliation, and maintaining public order.
