A new European Union-funded programme has been introduced to support the development of Libya’s media sector and strengthen the professional skills of Libyan journalists and media workers.

The programme was presented during a meeting with Mohamed Bouhalga, Director of the Government Communication Centre. Dr Marton Benedek, Head of Cooperation, introduced the new Libya Media Development Programme, which is designed to improve media standards and support long-term progress in the country’s journalism sector.

The initiative will be implemented by the RNTC Media Training Centre in cooperation with local partner ANIR. It aims to build professional capacity, encourage constructive dialogue, and contribute to the long-term sustainability of Libyan media organisations and independent journalism.

The programme also reflects continued European support for media development in Libya at a time when professional, reliable, and independent journalism remains essential to public debate, institutional transparency, and social stability.

Organisers expressed appreciation for the strong cooperation shown by the Government Communication Centre in supporting independent media and helping create a better environment for professional journalism in Libya.
