On Wednesday, the Russian Foreign Ministry issued a statement saying that Cairo and Moscow had agreed to increase coordination with one another. This is in order to facilitate the establishment of constructive dialogue between the warring parties in Libya.

The dialogue will be attended by all major political forces and players. It will aim to ensure the unity, territorial integrity, and sovereignty of Libya, in accordance with the outcomes of the Berlin Conference, and the provisions of Security Council Resolution 2510.

The two sides had an in-depth exchange of views on a comprehensive settlement to the crisis. The Deputy Foreign Minister, Mikhail Bogdanov, headed the Russian delegation while the Egyptian side was led by Assistant Foreign Minister, Mohamed Abu Bakr.

On Monday, Egypt’s Foreign Minister, Sameh Shoukry, held a telephone call with his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov, about the latest developments in Libya. Shoukry stressed the importance of “halting hostilities, reaching a comprehensive and permanent ceasefire agreement, dismantling militias, and expelling all foreign forces from the Libyan territory.”
