Chairman of the Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Committee of Libya’s House of Representatives, Yousef Ibrahim Al-Agouri, met on Thursday with Sudan’s Consul General, Abdulrahman Rahmatallah, to discuss the situation of Sudanese nationals and displaced persons residing in Libya, as well as ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
The meeting focused on the humanitarian impact of the ongoing conflict in Sudan and its repercussions for Sudanese citizens who have sought refuge in Libya. Both sides reviewed the conditions of displaced Sudanese communities and discussed efforts to facilitate their stay and address humanitarian needs in light of the exceptional circumstances facing Sudan.
Al-Agouri emphasized the importance of maintaining close coordination between the relevant Libyan and Sudanese authorities to address humanitarian challenges and provide appropriate support for those affected by the conflict. He stressed that the House of Representatives is committed to backing initiatives that strengthen solidarity, stability, and cooperation among neighboring and brotherly nations.
The discussions also highlighted the deep historical, social, and cultural ties between Libya and Sudan. Both officials reaffirmed the importance of preserving and expanding these longstanding relations through continued dialogue, coordination, and cooperation across a range of sectors
In addition to humanitarian issues, the meeting explored ways to enhance bilateral cooperation and exchange views on matters of mutual interest. Al-Agouri underlined the importance of sustained communication between institutions in both countries to advance shared interests and reinforce regional cooperation.
The chairman reiterated the House of Representatives’ support for efforts aimed at easing the suffering of Sudanese citizens affected by the conflict while promoting stability and humanitarian solidarity. He noted that cooperation between Libya and Sudan remains essential in addressing common regional challenges and strengthening relations between the two countries.
For his part, Consul General Rahmatallah expressed appreciation for Libya’s continued cooperation and the support extended to Sudanese nationals living in the country. He also welcomed the ongoing coordination with Libyan authorities and emphasized the importance of further developing bilateral relations.
