Russia Says Truce in Libya Will Build Dialogue Between Conflicting Parties

On Sunday, the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister and Presidential Special Envoy for the Middle East and Africa, Mikhail Bogdanov, expressed Moscow’s satisfaction with the cessation of hostilities in Libya.

In an interview with the Russian “Interfax” agency, Bogdanov said that the current truce in Libya must be fixed and pointed out that this truce should serve to launch a dialogue between the Libyan parties, instead of dividing the country.

The Russian diplomat indicated that the resignation of the Prime Minister of the Government of National Accord (GNA), Fayez Al-Sarraj, should not lead to an “administrative vacuum” in Libya.

On Friday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that his country is communicating with Egypt and Morocco regarding the Libyan file.

In an interview with Sputnik, Lavrov added: “We held consultations with the Turks in Ankara a few days ago, and we are communicating with Egypt and Morocco regarding the Libyan file. We will try to support this process and contribute to the political settlement.”
