Libya’s Brega Petroleum Marketing Company has reaffirmed that fuel supplies remain stable across the country, emphasizing that congestion at some filling stations is being driven by a temporary surge in demand rather than any disruption to fuel availability.
The company said it continues to deliver fuel to all regions of Libya through its established distribution network, with adequate operational reserves available and fuel shipments arriving regularly at ports and storage facilities. It added that fuel stations have received their scheduled allocations and that most outlets continue to maintain sufficient stocks in their operating tanks.
According to Brega, its storage depots have successfully completed planned fuel allocations for licensed distribution companies, ensuring that service stations are adequately supplied to meet consumer demand.
The company attributed the recent queues at some filling stations to increased fuel consumption caused by prolonged electricity outages in several parts of the country. The outages have led to greater use of private vehicles and generators, resulting in unusually high demand for gasoline and diesel.
To address the increase in consumption, Brega Chairman Fouad Ali Balrahim instructed the General Operations Department to boost fuel deliveries from the Tripoli Oil Depot to stations experiencing the highest demand. The additional supplies are intended to reduce waiting times, improve the flow of fuel to consumers, and maintain uninterrupted service.
Brega also confirmed that it continues to provide diesel supplies to public institutions, factories, industrial facilities, bakeries, and other essential sectors. In addition, the company said it remains committed to supplying the General Electricity Company of Libya with the fuel required for power generation, in accordance with approved schedules and coordination mechanisms.
The company stressed that Libya’s fuel supply chain is operating normally and that there is no shortage of fuel stocks nationwide. It urged the public to avoid unnecessary panic buying, noting that available reserves are sufficient to meet current demand.
Brega also called on fuel distribution companies and station operators to ensure that their facilities remain fully operational by maintaining backup power sources and preparing for periods of increased demand.
The company reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring uninterrupted fuel supplies across Libya and responding swiftly to changing market conditions to guarantee the continuous availability of fuel for citizens and key economic sectors.
