Erdogan Calls for Political Solution in Libya

On Tuesday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stressed that a permanent political solution in Libya needs to be established. This would be through a comprehensive dialogue process, between the Libyan parties.

“Turkey was the only country that responded to the request of the legitimate Government of National Accord (GNA), to stand with them against Khalifa Haftar,” President Erdogan said in a speech at the UN.

He claimed Turkey was upset that the GNA Prime Minister Fayez Al-Sarraj announced he was stepping down. Ankara may hold talks with his government on the issue, in the coming week.

Last week, Turkish naval forces conducted a search and rescue exercise off the coast of Libya. The two countries signed a maritime border demarcation agreement on 27 November.
