On Monday, Tunisian President Kais Saied spoke with Acting UN Special Representative for Libya, Stephanie Williams. They discussed the arrangements for Tunisia’s hosting of the first direct meeting of the Libyan political talks, set for early November.

According to the Tunisian Africa News Agency (ANA), Saied expressed his happiness to see coordination and consultation between Tunisia and the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) culminate in Libyan political talks to be hosted in Tunisia.

Saied said that these talks will bring all Libyan parties together, in order to resume the political process. The Tunisian President also assured his country’s readiness to cover all the financial and human resources costs incurred, to ensure the success of this dialogue.

The Tunisian President confirmed his country’s firm position to resolve the Libyan crisis, according to an approach based on the unity of Libya, the rejection of foreign interference, and finding a Libyan-led solution. In addition to saying that the upcoming dialogue fits this approach, he noted that Tunisia is not in competition with any party, and that the only desired goal behind hosting this dialogue is to reach a peaceful settlement of the Libyan crisis.

President Saied expressed his great optimism about a peace settlement, and the future of Libya.
