Head of ‘Nigerians in Diaspora Commission’ (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, demanded justice for the Nigerian worker who was burned to death on 7 October, in Tripoli.

In a meeting with the Libyan Ambassador to Nigeria, Ayad Attayary, the NiDCOM Chief stressed: “All we want is justice and to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.”

The Libyan Ambassador gave assurances of an open, and transparent legal system. He pledged that the killers will be tried in a Libyan court.

The Libyan authorities have announced the arrest of three Libyans, suspected to have set the Nigerian worker on fire. The act has been condemned by the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), the United Nations, and the Libyan Interior Ministry.

The UN described the killing as another senseless crime against migrants in the country.

The full identity of the Nigerian man has not been revealed. Investigations and interrogations of the suspected attackers, who are in custody, are still ongoing.

The Libyan Country Chief for the IOM , Federico Soda, said that those responsible for the crime must be held accountable.
