An official source at the Central Bank of Libya (CBL) in Tripoli denied the news that the CBL is to receive local currency printed in Britain at the end of October.

On Thursday, a number of social media pages circulated news that the Central Bank of Libya would receive 5 billion of local currency printed in Britain at the end of this month to solve the liquidity crisis.

Notably, the Libyan Deputy Prime Minister for Services Affairs of the Interim Government, Abdul Salam al-Badri, announced last week the start of negotiations with the Maltese authorities to release cash liquidity in favour of the Central Bank of Libya – Al-Bayda branch.

Al-Badri was visiting Malta as part of a delegation headed by the Speaker of the Libyan Parliament, Ageela Saleh, and including the Foreign Minister Abdulhadi Al-Hwaij.

Al-Badri said: “The discussions revolved around the Libyan authorities’ request to release the equivalent of 1.1 billion of Libyan currency.”
