A spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the Government of National Accord (GNA), Mohammed al-Qiblawi announced on Monday that the Libyan Consulate General of Sfax has provided housing to over 862 Libyan citizens currently stranded due to the Covid-19 outbreak.

According to an official statement by the GNA’s information office, the consulate has also provided the necessary medical supplies to those with chronic illnesses.

Al-Qiblawi added that the the process of counting stranded citizens is still ongoing and that the consulate will begin distributing necessary sanitary supplies to help Libyans prevent the spread of the Covid-19.

In the same context, The Prime Minister of Libya’s Interim Government, Abdullah al-Thinni, issued immediate orders on March 21st to arrange housing for 650 Libyan citizens stranded on Libya’s border with Tunisia. This follows the GNA’s decision to deny them entry and close the borders with Tunisia in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
