The Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, stated that he is looking forward to cooperating with the African Union in order to hold a Libyan national reconciliation conference.

He stressed that the partnership between the United Nations (UN) and the African Union (AU) has yielded important results. “The two sides have cooperated in the ceasefire agreement in Libya, the African Union Military Observer Mission in the Central African Republic, and the truce in South Sudan that has generated cautious optimism across the country”, he noted.

He praised this partnership in October, after the Libyan rivals signed the ceasefire agreement in Geneva. Guterres expressed his gratitude for the continuous and close participation of the AU in supporting the ongoing dialogue processes, given that he is the co-chair of the Security Team of the International Follow-up Committee.
