On Saturday, Libya’s state telecoms holding company ‘Libyana Mobile Phone’ announced that it had suffered a cyber-attack, describing it as a failed attempt that targeted ‘MyLibyana’ application.

In a statement, the company said it had managed to foil the cyber-attack, confirming that everything is under control and all users’ data and accounts are safe. It also promised to take all legal actions against the perpetrators of the attack.

The company pointed out that MyLibyana application is working normally. It urged users not to worry and not to pay attention to rumours and fake news circulating on social media.

Notably, Libyana Company was established in 2004. It is one of the two major mobile phone operators owned by the Libyan Post Telecommunications & Information Technology Company (LPTIC).

Libyana entered the Libyan telecommunication market with affordable services to compete with the other service provider, and it captured the entire market in just one year. Libyana’s market penetration rate now exceeds 116%.

Libyana has successfully deployed its network coverage throughout key areas in Libya in a record time, and it was the first company in North Africa to offer 3G services in September 2006.
