A high-ranking Egyptian delegation arrived in Tripoli’s Mitiga airport on Sunday to hold meetings with a number of officials of the Libyan Government of National Accord (GNA).

The delegation includes the Deputies of the Egyptian Defence Ministry, Foreign ministry, and the Deputy Head of Egyptian Intelligence.

The visit is the first of its kind since 2014 by Egyptian officials to the Libyan capital, Tripoli. It comes a few weeks after the visit of the GNA’s Interior Minister, Fathi Bashagha, to Cairo.

On Friday, the Turkish Defence Minister, accompanied by Turkey’s Chief of General Staff Yasar Guler, and other military commanders made a surprise visit to Tripoli. This visit followed the speech made by the Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan National Army (LNA), Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, urging his fighters to drive out Turkish forces from the oil-rich country.
