The Head of the Libyan Parliament’s Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Committee, Youssef Al-Agouri, warned of the outbreak of a new war in Libya, saying that the crisis can not be solved militarily.

In a statement issued by the committee, Al-Agouri voiced his deep concern regarding the recent escalation, after great efforts were made to settle the differences between the warring parties. He also warned against suspicious attempts by some media outlets to spread hate speech, and incite violence among the population.

Al-Agouri stressed the importance of preserving the sanctity of Libyan blood and rejecting all calls for war and violence. “The time has come to achieve peace after years of bitter fighting between members of the Libyan people,” he said.

He also warned that the outbreak of a new war would threaten the security and stability of the entire region, stressing his rejection of all forms of foreign interference, and the need for all foreign forces to leave Libya.

The MP called on the international community to take a firm stance towards achieving peace in the country, stressing that the only way-out of the current crisis is to continue with the political dialogue, support the United Nations in its work, and abide by the recommendations adopted at the Berlin Conference.

He called on all Libyans to join hands and overcome the pitfalls of the past in order to prevent the country from being dragged into further war and chaos.
