On Saturday, the Prime Minister of Libya’s Government of National Accord (GNA), Fayez Al-Sarraj, met with the Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), Stephanie Williams, in Rome.

In a statement, the Presidential Council said that the meeting dealt with the recent developments pertaining to the Libyan situation and ways in which to move forward on the political track.

The statement added that Stephanie Williams welcomed Al-Sarraj’s commitment to harnessing all capabilities to enable the Electoral Commission to accomplish the election on the date agreed upon in December 2021. She stated that this would take place in cooperation and coordination with the United Nations.

Early on Friday, Al-Sarraj met with his Italian counterpart Giuseppe Conte at Chigi Palace in Rome. Conte reiterated the importance of swiftly advancing the political process under the auspices of the UN, describing his meeting with Al-Sarraj as a “constructive meeting.”
