On Thursday, the Commander of the Libyan National Army (LNA), Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, ordered the building of four new field hospitals to counter the threat posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a statement, the LNA commander said that the four hospitals will be located in Zintan, Sirte, Sabha and Ajdabiya. Each field hospital will have a 50-bed capacity.

He added that all four hospitals, which will be funded by the army, are part of the LNA’s plan to confront Coronavirus.

Haftar had previously ordered the formation of a High Committee to address the potential outbreak of COVID-19 in Libya.

The committee is tasked with providing technical, medical and security support to the Medical Advisory Committee as it works to prevent an outbreak of Coronavirus in the country.
