GNA Committee to Follow up on Sirte-Al-Jufrah Military Situation

The Defense Minister of the Government of National Accord (GNA), Salah Al-Din Al-Namroush held an expanded meeting with military commanders in Tripoli, to discuss the latest political and field developments.

Al-Namroush said in a statement that the military officers discussed the formation of a committee to coordinate efforts and follow up the military situation in the Sirte-Al-Jufrah axis.

The meeting was attended by the Chief of the General Staff, Mohamed Al-Haddad, the Commander of the Joint Force, the Commander of the Tripoli Military Region, and the Commander of the Sirte-Al-Jufrah Operations Room.

Egypt warned in June 2020 that Cairo “will not stand idly by” in the face of any attack on Sirte and Al-Jufra, describing them both as “red lines,” for Egypt’s national security.

Wrecked by violence since 2011, Libya has become a battleground between tribes, militias, extremists, and mercenaries.
