US Ambassador to Libya, Richard Norland affirmed his country’s “full support” to the UN’s call for respect for the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF) roadmap, and to take the necessary steps to hold the December elections.

Ambassador Norland stressed the importance of reconvening the Libyan Parliament as soon as possible for a vote of confidence on the upcoming government cabinet.

On Sunday, Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), Jan Kubis held discussions in Libya with a wide range of interlocutors from across the country. The discussions focused on the progress made so far regarding the implementation of the LPDF roadmap, and the next steps to be taken. As well as the urgent need to reconvene Parliament.

Kubis stressed the importance of ensuring steady progress towards the upcoming general elections set for 24 December 2021.
