On Sunday, the Prime Ministry of the Government of National Unity (GNU), Abdul Hamid Dbaiba called on Libyans not to worry about the effectiveness of Coronavirus vaccines, stressing that the government is keen on preserving all citizens’ health.

During a live broadcast to mark the delivery of the first shipment of Covid-19 vaccines, Dbaiba reiterated that all vaccines that Libya is contracted to receive are safe and have had an efficiency rate of over 90 percent.

More than 100,000 doses of Russia’s Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine arrived at Tripoli’s Mitiga airport on Sunday, Libya’s ministry of health said.

The Libyan Premier confirmed that the second batch of 300 to 400,000 doses of the Corona vaccine will arrive Wednesday and a million more will arrive before April 11.

The PM stated: “The Government of National Unity is taking all the necessary precautions and I call on Libyans to avoid gathering during the holy month to stop the outbreak of the deadly virus.”

Al-Dbaiba also announced that all public sector salaries would be released by the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan.

He said, “We hope that the House of Representatives will approve the budget law without delay, promising citizens to pay all salaries at the beginning of each month, in agreement with the Central Bank of Libya.”

In February, the disease control center launched an electronic registration campaign for vaccinations for those aged over 18. No details on the numbers of those registering have been disclosed. Libya has a population of around 6.5 million.

Libya has recorded almost 200,000 infections since the outbreak of the pandemic and 2,684 deaths, according to the latest data from the diseases center.
