The Assistant Secretary-General of the Arab League, Hossam Zaki, held a video conference with the Deputy Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) Stephanie Williams on the upcoming International Follow-up Committee for Libya. The Committee is meant to monitor the outcomes of the Berlin Conference.

According to an official source in the Arab League, the two sides discussed the renewal of a clear, unified call in demanding a complete halt to the military operations between the two parties to the Libyan conflict. They also demanded that both parties abide by a humanitarian truce in order to allow national efforts to focus on facing the threat of COVID-19 in the country.

The two officials stressed the importance of international efforts to achieve a permanent ceasefire and encouraged the parties to the conflict to reach a political solution based on the three tracks (Military, Political and Economic) agreed upon at the Berlin Conference and sponsored by the UN.

Williams and Zaki also discussed the expected role of the International Follow-Up Committee for Libya to ensure full compliance with the arms embargo and ending foreign interference in Libya.
