Egyptian President, Abdel-Fatah El-Sisi and European Council President, Charles Michel stressed the importance of bilateral coordination to support the current transitional phase in Libya.

The Egyptian Presidency said in a statement that El-Sisi and Michel exchanged developments on the political and security situation in Libya, during a telephone call on Wednesday.

“They underlined the importance of supporting the Government of National Unity (GNU), and UN efforts in making progress on the different political, security, and economic tracks, including the withdrawal of all foreign forces and mercenaries from the country,” the statement said.

It added that holding Libya’s December elections would help restore “the pillars of the state and its national institutions, and will accelerate the exit of all mercenaries and foreign forces outside Libyan territory.”
