On Thursday, Amnesty International voiced its deep concern about the unknown fate & whereabouts of Mansour Atti, Head of the Red Crescent in Ajdabiya, who was abducted by unidentified armed men on 3 June.

In a statement, the organization called for Atti’s unconditional release, and urged all relevant military and security authorities to ensure a prompt, thorough and transparent investigation into his disappearance.

In its latest report, Amnesty called on Libya’s Government of National Unity (GNU) to address the human rights crisis across the country, break the cycle of impunity, and re-establish the rule of law.

It also highlighted key areas that the new government must focus on, including reining in militias and armed groups responsible for abductions, arbitrary detention, torture, enforced disappearances, forced displacement, looting, and other crimes

The Libyan Red Crescent Society and the National Commission for Human Rights in Libya (NCHRL) condemned the kidnapping of Atti. They both called on the relevant security services to investigate the incident, and work for his swift return.
