On Tuesday, Libya’s Parliament resumed its official session at its headquarters in the city of Benghazi. It was headed by the First Deputy Speaker of the House, Fawzi Al-Nuwairi.

Libya’s Parliament’s Spokesman, Abdullah Blaiheg announced that they had discussed a number of bills in the session, foremost of which was the unified salary bill.

The House called on the Finance Committee to quickly implement the approved amendments, and to finalize the unified salary bill.

Libya’s Parliament also requested the Legislative Committee to expedite the draft internal security law. The committee was asked to present this during the next session.

The draft law on unions and the draft law on youth and sports were also presented.

MP’s also discussed the draft law to amend the law on health insurance for all citizens, in all sectors. Through this amendment, all citizens will benefit from health insurance services.

The session discussed the achievements of the Reconstruction and Stability Committee in Benghazi. A parliamentary committee was formed to follow up with the Head and members of the committee. As well as to discuss aspects of the committee’s funding.

Libya is politically torn between Fathi Bashagha, who was elected by the Libyan Parliament to lead the country in February, and Abdel-Hamid Dbaiba, who refuses to relinquish power.

Tensions have been rising for months as the two Prime Ministers vie for power; rising fears of renewed conflict two years after a landmark truce.
