Russia Says Situation In Libya Is Deteriorating

The ‘RIA’ news agency reported on Friday that the Russian Foreign Ministry stated that the situation in Libya continued to deteriorate and the ceasefire was falling apart.

The Ministry’s spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova, said external intervention in the conflict had altered the balance of power on the ground in Libya, the ‘Interfax’ news agency reported.

She stated that Russia remains in contact with all parties in Libya and continues to insist that the conflict is resolved through diplomatic means.

Turkey supports the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord, while the Libyan National Army, based in eastern Libya, is supported by Egypt, Russia, and the UAE.

Libya has been marred in chaos since the 2011 NATO backed uprising killed longtime leader Muammar Gaddafi.
