The Chargé d’Affaires of the Saudi Embassy in Libya, Ahmed Al-Shehri, reiterated Saudi Arabia’s support for Libya’s democratic transition during a meeting with Emad Al-Sayeh, Chairman of the Libyan High National Elections Commission (HNEC), and HNEC member Rabab Halab.

The meeting, held at the HNEC headquarters, praised the Commission’s efforts in facilitating electoral processes adhering to international standards. Discussions emphasized the crucial role of Arab and regional support in ensuring the success of Libya’s upcoming elections and promoting peace and stability in the Arab world.

Al-Shehri toured the HNEC facilities, assessing readiness for the electoral process, including the media center and data processing center.

Saudi Arabia’s endorsement of Libya’s democratic journey aligns with regional aspirations for a stable, democratically governed Libya, essential for the credibility and success of the upcoming elections, marking a crucial phase in Libya’s post-conflict recovery and democratic development.

Despite a ceasefire, security challenges persist in Libya, with sporadic fighting and the presence of mercenaries and foreign fighters. Unifying the military and removing foreign forces remain crucial challenges. Disagreements over election laws and candidate eligibility led to the postponement of December 2021 elections, raising concerns about a peaceful political transition.
