The Libyan Government of National Unity’s Minister of Economy and Trade Mohamed Al-Hwaij met with Malta’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Affairs Ian Borg and Minister of Trade and Economy Silvio Schembri. They discussed ways to enhance bilateral relations and increase trade and strategic investments through joint cooperation.
During the meeting, Al-Hwaij extended an official invitation to Maltese companies to participate in the upcoming 50th edition of the Tripoli International Fair, scheduled for May next year.
The meeting was attended by Libya’s Chargé d’Affaires in Malta, Suhail Al-Tariki, along with Ministerial Advisor Shathar Al-Sayyad, and heads of various Libyan authorities including Abdelaziz Al-Shaoush of the General Authority for Investment Promotion and Privatization Affairs, Essam Al-Awol of the General Authority for Exhibitions, Taher El-Badawi, Deputy General Director of the Insurance Supervision Authority, and Ashraf Al-Taib, Director of International Cooperation at the Foreign Ministry.
The discussion focused on cooperation aspects, reviewing existing agreements and memorandums of understanding, and the formation of joint cooperation committees between Libya and Malta. There was also a call to revive the high-level Libyan-Maltese committee, which has been inactive since 2013.
Minister Al-Hwaij emphasized the importance of resolving issues and obstacles facing Maltese companies to facilitate their return and resume operations in Libya, inviting the Maltese ministers to visit Libya to further discuss and bolster the two nations’ cooperative efforts.
