The Libyan Football Federation has announced the appointment of Nasser Al-Hadhiri as the new head coach of the Libyan national football team.
Al-Hadhiri replaces Serbian coach Milutin Sredojević, commonly known as Micho, who was dismissed following Libya’s 2-1 defeat to Benin in the second round of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers for the 2025 tournament in Morocco.
The decision to appoint Al-Hadhiri was confirmed by the Federation’s president, Abdulhakim Al-Shalmani, who expressed confidence in the new coach’s abilities. “We have finalised everything with Nasser Al-Hadhiri, who brings a wealth of experience to the national team.
He previously served as assistant coach under Spanish coach Javier Clemente in 2014 and has since developed a solid coaching reputation,” said Al-Shalmani.
Al-Hadhiri’s appointment marks a return to a more familiar figure within the Libyan football scene, as the coach is widely respected for his knowledge of local football and his connection to Libyan players. His task will be to guide the “Mediterranean Knights” through the remaining Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and to work on rebuilding the national team’s performance after a series of disappointing results.
Micho’s departure comes after growing dissatisfaction with Libya’s recent performances, particularly their loss against Benin, which left them in a precarious position in the qualifying group. Fans and analysts alike have been calling for a change in leadership, and Al-Hadhiri’s appointment is seen as a step toward rejuvenating the team.
