The Executive Director of the National Vaccination Campaign, Mohamed Idris, has announced the vaccination of 12,572 children in the city of Sirte as part of a nationwide initiative targeting children aged from birth to six years.

Speaking to Bawabet Al-Wasat on Sunday, Idris noted that the campaign in Sirte achieved over 50% coverage, with 12,572 children vaccinated out of the 25,500 eligible. The initiative focuses on protecting children from diseases such as polio, measles, and rubella.

The National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) continues to emphasise the importance of vaccinating children and urges families to visit their nearest health centres to safeguard against life-threatening illnesses.

On Friday, the NCDC reported that the campaign had reached over 620,000 children nationwide, with numbers steadily increasing. In its statement, the centre confirmed that no severe side effects were observed among vaccinated children, debunking rumours spread by misinformation campaigns.

Dr Ahmed Zouiten, Director of the World Health Organization (WHO) office in Libya, reiterated the safety and effectiveness of the vaccines used. He assured the public that the vaccines meet international standards and were approved by the WHO in 2020. Zouiten encouraged Libyan families to ensure their children receive vaccinations to bolster immunity against preventable diseases.

The ongoing campaign reflects Libya’s commitment to public health, with authorities collaborating with international organisations to protect children and prevent the spread of infectious diseases.
