The Minister of Interior of the Libyan Government of National Accord (GNA), Fathi Bashagha, confirmed widespread corruption in Libya and its direct impact on Libyan citizens. He claimed the beginning of action being taken against those involved.

“The corruption system has spread everywhere, in fact corruption has become clear and we see it every day through services and rights that no longer reach the citizen”, Bashagha tweeted on Wednesday.

He claimed that the Ministry of the Interior, in cooperation with the Attorney General and regulatory institutions, will prosecute those involved in corruption files. The Ministry noted: “We will start with senior officials who took advantage of their positions; for their narrow interests”, Bashagha said.

On Tuesday, Bashagha held a press conference, during which he announced the Ministry’s launch of the “Interior Mobile” application.
This comes within the framework of developing, building, and modernising the Ministry’s capabilities, by providing smart and safe services through modern technology. This is in order to achieve an important shift at the level of security and safety, and to extend easy and safe communication lines between citizens and the MoI.

“We are also working on launching cards and electronic passports, to help cancel duplicates and counterfeits, using smart and safe technology”, Bashagha said during his speech.
