The Director General of the Libyan Development and Reconstruction Fund, Belqassim Haftar, received a delegation from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) at Benghazi International Stadium to assess its readiness for official approval.

The visit aimed to evaluate the stadium’s facilities and determine its suitability for hosting African matches and tournaments.

During the inspection, Belqassim Haftar assured the CAF delegation that Benghazi Stadium marks the beginning of Libya’s sports infrastructure reconstruction efforts. He also revealed that the Development Fund plans to launch work on five new stadiums in 2025, located in Tobruk, Ajdabiya, Sirte, and Sebha, all meeting international standards to host both domestic and international sporting events.

The CAF delegation included Mohamed Gremida, Director of Professional Affairs and IT at the Libyan Football Federation and CAF observer, along with Fawzi Juwida, Vice President of the Libyan Football Federation. Also present was Christian Amourou, CAF’s Director of Security and Safety.

The Libyan authorities are working to restore and upgrade the country’s sports facilities, aiming to reintegrate Libya into the international football scene.
