Saudi Arabia’s King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) has distributed 2,416 food baskets to families in Derna, Libya, as part of ongoing relief efforts for those affected by Storm Daniel. The initiative, conducted in collaboration with the Libyan Red Crescent, has benefited 12,804 individuals.
The aid distribution is part of Saudi Arabia’s broader humanitarian efforts to support disaster-stricken communities worldwide. KSrelief has been actively involved in providing emergency assistance to affected Libyan families since the catastrophic storm struck in September 2023.
Storm Daniel devastated large parts of eastern Libya, particularly Derna, causing massive flooding that swept away entire neighbourhoods. The disaster, which resulted in thousands of deaths and widespread displacement, highlighted the urgent need for international aid. The storm’s aftermath left thousands homeless, with severe damage to infrastructure, homes, and essential services.
Relief organisations, including KSrelief and the Libyan Red Crescent, have been working tirelessly to provide food, medical supplies, and temporary shelter to those in need. Saudi Arabia’s ongoing commitment to humanitarian aid is seen as a crucial factor in helping Libyan communities recover from the disaster.
Local and international aid groups continue to coordinate relief operations, emphasising the need for long-term reconstruction and support. The Saudi relief initiative aligns with broader global efforts to assist Libya in rebuilding affected regions and restoring stability.
