Libya’s General Electricity Corporation: Gunmen Stormed Station East of Tripoli to Restore Supply by Force

Libya’s General Electricity Corporation (GECOL) has announced that supply was restored in some areas east of Tripoli by armed men, which led to a complete blackout in other parts of Tripoli and the western region.

A group of gunmen forced the workers to return supply lines manually and evicted them from the station. Since electricity supply is low, GECOL has a supply offering strategy which gives each part of western Libya a quota of electricity supply.

Several regions in Libya are experiencing power outages of more than 30 consecutive hours.

The crisis of power outages, which shows the constant deterioration of services, has angered Libyans although they have not pursued radical solutions to end their suffering. This electricity crisis adds to the crises of liquidity and insecurity in some areas.
