Somali President Hassan Hassan Sheikh Mohamud arrived in Tripoli on Sunday evening, leading a high-level delegation on an official visit to Libya. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Government of National Unity confirmed the visit through its official Facebook page.

Upon arrival at Mitiga International Airport in eastern Tripoli, the Somali president was received by Libya’s acting Foreign Minister, Al-Taher Al-Baour. An official reception ceremony was held at the airport, attended by senior officials from the Presidential Council and the Government of National Unity.

According to the Foreign Ministry, the visit aims to strengthen bilateral relations between Libya and Somalia. The trip follows earlier visits by Somali Foreign Minister Ahmed Moallim Fiqi and Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs, and National Reconciliation, who held discussions with their Libyan counterparts in preparation for the president’s arrival.

On Monday, President Mohamud is set to meet with Presidential Council head Mohamed Al-Mnifi and Prime Minister Abdel-Hamid Dbaiba.

The discussions are expected to cover a range of issues, with a particular focus on security cooperation and counterterrorism efforts. The Libyan Interior Ministry has indicated that the visit will likely result in the signing of agreements in these areas, marking a new phase of collaboration between the two nations.
