The Libya Development and Reconstruction Fund has hosted the Libya Businessmen Forum for Development and Reconstruction in Benghazi, bringing together business leaders, investors, companies, and institutions from across the country under one economic platform.
The forum, described as the first initiative of its kind to gather Libyan business figures from different regions in a unified setting, focused on investment opportunities, reconstruction projects, and future partnerships aimed at supporting Libya’s next phase of development.
Participants discussed ways to build on completed reconstruction projects, turning them into a foundation for economic growth, job creation, and long-term stability. The forum also highlighted the importance of transforming reconstruction from a recovery process into a productive investment environment capable of supporting the national economy.
The event featured interactive panel discussions with businessmen, investors, and representatives of private and public institutions. The sessions reviewed possible areas of cooperation in development, construction, infrastructure, services, and investment-led economic activity.
Belgassem Haftar, Director General of the Libya Development and Reconstruction Fund, delivered a speech during the forum, stressing that reconstruction in Libya is no longer a promise or a slogan, but a reality on the ground.
He said the achievements made in the reconstruction sector have prepared the country for a new phase based on investment, employment, and a stronger role for Libyan businessmen in rebuilding the national economy.
Haftar added that the current stage requires greater private sector involvement, noting that business leaders and investors have a key role to play in turning reconstruction projects into sustainable economic opportunities.
The forum comes as Libya seeks to expand investment activity, strengthen economic partnerships, and create a more stable environment for development. It also reflects efforts by the Libya Development and Reconstruction Fund to link reconstruction with broader economic planning, job creation, and private sector participation.
By bringing together business leaders from across Libya, the Benghazi forum aimed to create a shared platform for dialogue, cooperation, and future investment. Organisers said the event marks an important step towards supporting development, stimulating the economy, and encouraging national participation in Libya’s reconstruction drive.
