US Presidential Adviser for Arab and African Affairs Massad Boulos has said that the American plan for Libya is designed to end years of political division and support a Libyan-led settlement.
Speaking to Al Hadath, Boulos said the plan aims to help Libya move beyond the state of institutional and political fragmentation that has affected the country for years. He stressed that the initiative is a Libyan-Libyan plan, indicating that its success depends on consensus among Libyan parties rather than externally imposed solutions.
Boulos said preparations for elections in Libya must begin as soon as possible, describing the electoral track as a key step towards restoring political stability and ending the prolonged transitional phase.
His remarks come amid renewed international efforts to support a political settlement in Libya, where rival institutions and competing authorities have continued to delay a comprehensive national agreement.
The US initiative is expected to focus on narrowing differences between Libyan actors, supporting the unification of state institutions, and creating conditions for credible elections.
Boulos’ comments also reflect Washington’s growing interest in pushing forward a political process that preserves Libya’s unity, strengthens stability, and allows Libyans to decide the future of their country through elections.
The latest statements add momentum to ongoing discussions over Libya’s political roadmap, as local and international parties seek a formula capable of ending division and opening the way for a unified government and elected institutions.
