Libya has improved its position in the latest Henley Passport Index, with the Libyan passport climbing to 93rd place globally in the 2026 edition of the annual ranking, reflecting a gradual expansion in international travel opportunities for Libyan citizens.
According to the index, the Libyan passport advanced seven places compared with 2025, when it ranked 100th. The ranking evaluates 199 passports based on the number of destinations their holders can access without obtaining a visa before departure.
The latest data show that Libyan passport holders can currently travel to around 40 destinations either without a visa or by obtaining a visa upon arrival. The ranking covers a total of 227 travel destinations worldwide.
Libyan citizens enjoy visa-free access to a number of countries across Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Caribbean, including Tunisia, Algeria, Mauritania, Benin, The Gambia, Malaysia, Belarus, Dominica, Haiti, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and the Federated States of Micronesia.
Several other destinations offer visas on arrival for Libyan travelers, including the Maldives, Lebanon, Jordan, Nepal, Cambodia, Iran, Ghana, Tanzania, Senegal, Seychelles, Mozambique, and Madagascar. In addition, countries such as Kenya, Uganda, and Sri Lanka have introduced electronic travel authorization systems that simplify entry procedures.
Despite the improvement, Libyan passport holders still require visas before traveling to most major destinations, including the United States, Canada, European Union member states, China, India, Japan, Australia, Russia, and the Gulf countries.
The Henley Passport Index is widely used as a global benchmark for passport strength and international mobility. Its rankings are based on visa policies, bilateral agreements, and the level of travel access granted by governments around the world.
