Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty met on Sunday with Massad Boulos, Senior Adviser to the US President for Arab, Middle Eastern, and African Affairs, to discuss the latest developments in Libya and reaffirm support for advancing the country’s political process.

According to the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting was part of ongoing consultations between Cairo and Washington on regional issues, with Libya featuring prominently on the agenda alongside developments in Sudan and regional security.

During the talks, Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to Libya’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, stressing the importance of preserving the country’s national institutions and preventing further political fragmentation. He emphasized that a comprehensive political settlement must be achieved through a Libyan-led and Libyan-owned process that reflects the aspirations of the Libyan people.

The Egyptian foreign minister also underscored the need to create the conditions necessary for holding simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections as soon as possible, describing the vote as a key step toward ending Libya’s prolonged political transition and strengthening state institutions.

The two officials reviewed international efforts aimed at advancing the political process in Libya. Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s support for United Nations initiatives, as well as regional and international diplomatic efforts, including those led by the United States, to facilitate a sustainable political settlement that safeguards Libya’s stability and unity.

According to the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, both sides agreed on the importance of maintaining support for the political process while encouraging measures that enhance security, reinforce state institutions, and promote long-term stability across Libya.

The discussions also addressed the ongoing conflict in Sudan. Abdelatty outlined Egypt’s efforts to support Sudan’s sovereignty, security, and national institutions while calling for a lasting ceasefire, increased humanitarian assistance, and an inclusive political process capable of preserving the country’s unity.

The meeting further covered regional water security issues. Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s position on the need to respect international law governing shared water resources and renewed Cairo’s opposition to unilateral measures affecting the Eastern Nile Basin, describing water security as a strategic priority for Egypt.
