Libya’s Attorney General, Al-Siddiq Al-Sour, announced on Tuesday that authorities have identified a suspect in the assassination attempt on Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, Adel Jumaa.

In an official statement, the Attorney General’s office confirmed that one suspect fled to Tunisia, prompting efforts to track him down through international cooperation. Authorities are also searching for other individuals involved in the attack. However, the statement did not disclose any specific details about the suspects or their motives.

According to the investigation, authorities gathered evidence confirming the circumstances surrounding the incident and successfully identified the perpetrator. The suspect reportedly left Libya for Tunisia immediately after carrying out the attack. The Attorney General’s office has since initiated procedures to pursue him beyond Libyan jurisdiction, while continuing efforts to apprehend others connected to the crime.

Minister Adel Jumaa remains in recovery after undergoing multiple surgeries in Italy. He was discharged from intensive care last week in Rome, where he has been receiving medical treatment following the assassination attempt in Tripoli on 12 February.

Gunmen ambushed Jumaa as he left Palm City, an upscale residential complex in Tripoli, opening fire on his vehicle. The minister sustained eight gunshot wounds, three of which required urgent surgical intervention. Initial medical treatment began at Abu Salim Hospital in Tripoli to control bleeding, before he was transferred to a European hospital in Rome. There, doctors removed the bullets and inserted stents and platinum plates. Another operation is scheduled in the coming week as part of his ongoing treatment.

Since the attack, the Government of National Unity (GNU) has remained largely silent, issuing only a brief condemnation and announcing an investigation. Neither the Ministry of Interior nor other government bodies have provided further details about the assailants or the potential motives behind the attack.
