The Prime Minister of the Parliament-designate government in Libya, Osama Hammad, has instructed the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation to coordinate with the Tunisian Consulate to ensure the repatriation of six Tunisian engineers who tragically lost their lives in a road accident. The incident occurred two days ago on the Jalu-Kufra highway, as the engineers were reportedly on a work mission.

According to a statement issued by the Libyan government, Prime Minister Hammad’s directive follows the instructions of the General Commander of the Libyan Armed Forces, Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar. The government has tasked the Protocol Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with managing the transport of the deceased to Tunisia.

The repatriation is scheduled for Sunday evening, 23 March 2025, and will be conducted in the presence of the Acting Consul General of the Republic of Tunisia in Benghazi. Senior officials from the Libyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Protocol Office will also attend to oversee the proceedings and ensure that the arrangements are conducted with due respect.

The Libyan government extended its deepest condolences to the families of the deceased engineers. In its statement, the government expressed solidarity with the bereaved families, praying for mercy upon the victims and wishing a swift recovery to those injured in the tragic accident.

This fatal incident has sparked renewed concern over road safety conditions along the Jalu-Kufra route, which is known for its dangerous stretches and frequent accidents. The six Tunisian nationals were reportedly working for a construction firm involved in development projects in southern Libya.
