Deputy Prime Minister of the Parliament-designate government, Ali Al-Qatrani, held a meeting with Minister of Agriculture and Livestock Younes Al-Urfi to assess the ministry’s performance and discuss the latest developments in the sector. The meeting took place at the Cabinet Office in Benghazi and included the presence of Engineer Abdelhafid Abdullah, Director of the Animal Production Office.

The discussions focused on ongoing efforts to improve agricultural productivity and enhance livestock development across Libya. A key part of the meeting involved the official handover of updated livestock census records, compiled according to the ministry’s approved mechanism. This initiative aligns with the government’s broader vision of achieving sustainable development within the agricultural and livestock sectors.

Minister Al-Urfi highlighted the urgent need to provide subsidised animal feed as the country continues to experience a severe drought. He stressed the importance of taking swift action to maintain livestock production and safeguard food security.

Al-Qatrani expressed appreciation for the ministry’s efforts and underscored the critical importance of agriculture and livestock in supporting Libya’s national economy. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to backing this vital sector and ensuring that it receives the support needed to overcome current challenges.

The meeting also underlined the strategic role of livestock data in planning for resource allocation, food production, and rural development. Both officials agreed on the need to enhance coordination among relevant departments to maximise productivity and efficiency.

As Libya grapples with climate challenges and economic instability, the government is prioritising initiatives that strengthen food self-sufficiency and rural livelihoods. Enhancing agricultural and livestock resilience remains central to the country’s development agenda.
