Libya and Saudi Arabia have taken steps to enhance energy cooperation, focusing particularly on gas development and technical training. Libyan Minister of Oil and Gas, Khalifa Abdul Sadek, met with Saudi Energy Minister, Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman, on the sidelines of the 9th International OPEC Seminar.

The meeting explored opportunities for joint ventures in Libya’s gas sector, with the Libyan side expressing interest in benefiting from the expertise of Saudi Arabia’s energy giant, Aramco. Libya is seeking to boost its gas production capabilities and optimise its natural resource management. The ministers discussed how Saudi technical experience could support Libya’s efforts to modernise and expand its gas infrastructure.

In addition to energy cooperation, the two ministers reviewed plans for a renewed joint vocational training programme. The initiative aims to build qualified national workforces in both countries. According to officials, further details of the programme will be announced soon, reflecting a shared commitment to professional development in the energy sector.

Both sides reaffirmed the importance of strengthening bilateral relations and expanding their partnership in a way that serves the mutual interests of Libya and Saudi Arabia. The meeting is seen as a step towards deeper integration in regional energy initiatives and stronger collaboration among oil-producing nations.

This dialogue comes at a time when Libya is working to stabilise its energy sector and attract foreign investment, especially in natural gas – an area with vast untapped potential. Saudi Arabia’s experience in managing complex energy projects offers an attractive model for Libya as it looks to diversify its energy exports and improve production efficiency.

The meeting underscores growing cooperation between OPEC members and the role of energy diplomacy in advancing shared economic goals.
