Libyan MP: Foreign Agencies Behind Migrant Integration in Libya

Libyan House of Representatives member Jaballah Al-Shaibani has issued a stark warning over what he described as the “soft resettlement” of irregular migrants in Libya, urging citizens to rally against the practice.

In a statement posted on his Facebook account, Al-Shaibani called for broad support of the “movement against resettlement” so it can grow into a nationwide push, framing it as a wake-up call for Libyans to confront a looming threat.

Concerns Over Gradual Integration

According to Al-Shaibani, this type of covert resettlement involves gradually absorbing migrants by granting them access to healthcare, education, and even certain documents that legitimize their presence and shield them from deportation.

He claimed that the process is being facilitated with the involvement of foreign intelligence agencies in coordination with domestic actors, following the realization that any attempt at formal or open resettlement would face strong public rejection.

A National Security Issue

Al-Shaibani stressed that such measures amount to a direct threat to Libya’s national security and social fabric, warning that “the danger of resettlement lies in selling the nation in broad daylight.”

He urged all Libyans to remain vigilant and to actively resist what he views as an externally-driven agenda that undermines the country’s sovereignty.
