The Libyan Parliament-designate government has launched a national initiative titled “Libya for Peace” in the southern region of Wadi Al-Bawanis, under the supervision of the Libyan National Peace Assembly and the sponsorship of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. The initiative is being implemented concurrently across sixteen municipalities throughout the country.
Organised by the Community Partnership Team in Al-Bawanis, in collaboration with the municipal council, the event was held at the council’s main conference hall. The programme included a detailed presentation outlining the initiative’s goals and operational framework, which focus on promoting civil peace and strengthening comprehensive national reconciliation.
The initiative emphasises the active involvement of civil society organisations, public service bodies, the Municipal Guard, and local youth and community leaders. It aims to consolidate unity and social harmony among Libyans by supporting dialogue, collaboration, and collective responsibility for peacebuilding.
The event was attended by several officials, including the mayor and members of the Al-Bawanis Municipal Council, the council’s deputy director, the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Office, Suleiman Massoud, former adviser at the Libyan Embassy in Chad, Dr Mohamed Al-Basir, as well as representatives from the Office of Libyan Elders, security authorities, and civic institutions.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, the municipal leaders expressed appreciation for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation’s role in supporting peace efforts. They also commended the General Command of the Libyan Armed Forces for maintaining security and stability in the southern region. The council reaffirmed its full commitment to all initiatives aimed at building a unified and peaceful Libyan state.
