The Director General of Libya’s Development and Reconstruction Fund, Belqasem Khalifa Haftar, inaugurated the historic Al-Badri Mosque in Benghazi following the completion of extensive renovation and restoration works.

The reopening ceremony was attended by several members of the House of Representatives and Prime Minister Osama Hammad, highlighting the national importance of the project.

Al-Badri Mosque is regarded as one of Benghazi’s most prominent religious and historical landmarks. The rehabilitation works included a full upgrade of the mosque’s interior and exterior facilities, as well as improvements to all service areas, ensuring greater comfort for worshippers and visitors while preserving the site’s architectural and spiritual character.

The project forms part of broader efforts by the Development and Reconstruction Fund to protect and restore key religious and heritage sites across the city, reinforcing their cultural, social, and spiritual role in the community. Officials said the renovated mosque now reflects Benghazi’s long history and religious legacy, combining modern standards with respect for its original identity.
